Meet Your Instructor: Fr. Vasili (Vas) Avramidis

Fr. Vas Avramidis is an iconographer and art educator with more than 20 years of experience painting icons and over 10 years teaching iconography.

His work has been exhibited at the New Jersey State Museum, and he has received multiple grants from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Fr. Vas has a background in studio art and visual studies, along with formal theological education in the Holy Orthodox Christian tradition. This combination of artistic training and theological study informs his approach to teaching iconography as both a demanding visual art and an expression of the Christian tradition.

His instruction emphasizes understanding an image, not merely reproducing its outward appearance. Through studying traditional drawing, proportion, composition, color, and painting methods, students build the foundation for greater skill and understanding.
